Lego MST3K!

Speaking of Mystery Science Theater 3000 … Lego Ideas (the program Lego created for users to submit their own Lego set ideas for production) has a LEGO Mystery Science Theater 3000 set up for review! The idea was designed and submitted by user “JMaster” and it looks so cool!

These submissions need people to support the project before Lego will consider building it. So if you’re a Mistie and would like to one day be able to buy this awesome set, give them a click! :)

I Love These Peaches!

I found a new podcast that I want to share!

You may or may not know, the cult classic TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 is being rebooted (Yay! I’m a massive MST3K fan by the by.) Recently MST3K creator Joel Hodgson hired Elliot Kalan, formerly of Daily Show fame, to be the Head Writer in the reboot. Misties were hailing the news and touting Kalan’s participation on The Flop House Podcast to prove his movie riffing bona fides.

I’d never heard of Kalan or the Podcast so I checked it out … It’s AMAZING! Dan McCoy (Producer/Co-Host), Elliott Kalan (Co-Host), and Stuart Wellington (Co-Host) pick a movie that flopped in the theater (either critically or financially) and describe the plot to the listener all the while, riffing and cracking jokes. Since it’s an audio only podcast so it’s like a theater-of-the-mind version of MST3K. It’s laugh-out-loud funny and a such a treat to listen to.

They’ve been doing this podcast for years at this point and they have over 200 episodes to checkout. I recommend episode #100 Tango and Cash and episode #200 Dan Aykroyd’s fever dream, Nothing But Trouble. Such great episodes!

So do yourself a favor and checkout the original peaches, you can thank me later! :)

Cats n’ Boxes … Nuff said.

One of my favorite internet series is Simon’s Cat by Simon Tofield. If you’re a cat lover, these animated shorts definitely hit home. :) I just stumbled on the video below and wanted to share it. If you aren’t familiar with the Simon’s Cat series, check it out because it’s great!

Spinning along the Catherine Wheel …

A few years back I looked into comicbooking as a career. The more I found out about the industry, the less I thought it was a good fit for me. Here’s a piece I did back then as a style / materials experiment. On the left is the original india ink drawing. On the right is the drawing composited over a watercolor wash. I liked how it turned out so much I’ve had this image on the homepage of my site for a couple of years now … :).

Go see it!!! A midnight movie review …

Captain America 3 movie review

Captain America 3 is finally out in theaters in the states and not since the original Anchorman has the silver screen captured such an epic donnybrook (yeah, I went there …)! And it really did get outta hand fast. Wait a minute … Paul Rudd was in that movie too … It’s all coming together … Maybe it’s the lack of sleep, Twizzlers, and/or gallon of Coca-Cola I drank in the theater talking, but the universe is starting to make sense … The Coca-Cola isn’t talking about the Marvel Universe … It’s talking about the one we supposedly inhabit … The pieces are all falling into place … Kevin Bacon …

Batman v. Superman v. Good Taste

The last live action DC movie I genuinely like is 1980’s Superman 2. In my opinion, the Burton/Schumacher movies went from stylized-cheese to campy-garbage. The “real world” take of the “Nolanverse” is boring and mediocre. And Warner Bros. insistence on trying to make Superman dark and edgy like Batman is just plain dumb and shows that the producers don’t know/or care about the source material (big surprise, I know.)

So I had very low expectations when I heard they were making a Batman v. Superman movie. And when I saw the trailer … I really had low expectations. (And then when I saw the Captain America : Civil War trailer, I felt really bad for DC fans.)

I figured I’d still see Bats v. Supes and do a review for Totally Rainbow. I bought all of the movie tie-in Lego sets to use in the review and even posted an effects laden Lego Superman photo that I created on my Instagram account in anticipation of the movie. Sure, I thought the movie would be a watchable waste of time but I really hoped I was wrong. But after seeing the hilarious video below though … turns out I wasn’t. Ben Affleck, “KNEEL before Zod!” :)
